Click here for the full report

This project entails a systematic meta-analytic review of studies on a range of group psychotherapy treatment outcomes in military veterans. The report here provides trends drawn from the review, addressing the research questions set out at the beginning of the project.

Findings lead to several main conclusions:

  • Group therapy is effective for treating veterans.

  • Group therapy is versatile in its benefits. It is useful for treating various mental health difficulties of veterans beyond PTSD. There is also a considerable number of studies (though far fewer than for symptom reduction) showing group therapy’s utility for increasing of positive psychological qualities.

  • Group therapy has benefits beyond its treatment effects, such as accessibility due to cost effectiveness of implementation (relative to individual treatment).
